Knitters are known for picking up their needles and knitting for a great cause.  On Friday, October 5, 2012, local knitters are invited to Knitique, A Yarn Boutique in Elk Grove, CA to raise funds for British knitwear designer, Louisa Harding’s fund raising efforts for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The story behind our event...

 This November, Louisa Harding will be lacing up her hiking boots and stuffing a backpack full of yarn as she embarks on Team Macmillan’s Nepal Hiking Challenge. Her mission is to raise awareness and funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Why is she doing this? Well, in January, 2011, Louisa's husband (and her book photographer) Stephen was diagnosed with Lymphoma. She and her family received exceptional care from Macmillan Cancer Support. As you can imagine, Macmillan Cancer Support can not give their vital services to families facing cancer without people supporting them. To give back to Macmillan Cancer Support, Louisa is raising funds by going on the Nepal hike and with donations for a series of seven hats she has designed called Himalayan Hiking Hats. Six patterns are available currently and she is actually knitting the seventh hat on the hike!

Knitique has long admired Louisa Harding's books and yarns.  We are showing our support by embracing Louisa’s Himalayan Hiking Hats and hosting this special event.  Two designs from the Himalayan Hiking Hats will be available in a hat kit for a *donation at our Louisa Harding Charity Event.

With a hat kit donation, you qualify for our "FREE" Louisa Harding Charity Knit-along class on October 13th and 27th from 4:00PM to 6:00PM for support and help knitting your hats. 

The event night is also our monthly Knit 'n Nosh, so if you would like to participate in our popular Knit 'n Nosh potluck/social event, please bring a food dish to share along with your knitting or crochet project.
