Crazy for Chemo Caps

Please join us this Sunday, April 11th, 2010 from 12-4pm for our monthly Chemo Cap Event. Bring a leftover, DK or Worsted Weight Yarn, US6-8 needles (Circular) and a desire to help someone in our local area. We have donated yarn if you'd like, and have several easy and fun patterns.

Since we started making hats in June 2005 we've donated over 5000 hats, that's about a 1000 a year. We've got a great group that makes hats on their, but we'd love to have you come in, and make a quick cap for someone who needs it.

Can't wait to see you there!

Have you Yelped?

I'm not sure if you are all familiar with Yelp. It's a great place to go when you are out of town and want to find out the best place for breakfast in your local town. While on a recent visit to Ventura, I was looking for the "Best Breakfast" I have the Yelp application on my iphone and found the perfect place for breakfast that filled my family up for at least a few hours. If you haven't visited Yelp, you've got to try it out. Knitique even has a page on Yelp. If you've got a minute and wouldn't mind writing a review, we'd love for out of towners to hear your opinions on our Fabulous Yarn Boutique.

Now on to Knitting news. Gorgeous Cottons, and Summer Blends have been arriving in our store daily the last few weeks. We've found some new yarns we couldn't live without and some old favorites that work year after year.

Come on in, and join us in the Spring Frenzy.

Knit and Nosh this Friday, April 2

Come join us this Friday Night, from 5-9 pm for an evening out with friends.

We've finished up our April Calendar, it's wonderful as usual with a large variety of project and skill building classes. I'll be posting it on the website, just as soon as my Fabulous Friday All Skills Classes are finished today.

Bring a dish to share, and join us for an evening filled with love, laughter, knitting and of course Good Eats.

We are thinking about doing massages at the new place in Elk Grove, so if nothing else, come knit, come eat, and enjoy a little relaxation before your family arrives on Sunday.

Call us if you have any questions!

P.S. Here's a picture of Robin where right before she heads off to the airport for 3 fabulous weeks in Italy, she needs a skein of yarn. We love it!

Addi Lace Clicks are soon to be in the house!

If you all are anything like me, I was happy that Addi developed their interchangeable system. But I'm a big user of the Addi Lace, so though it was nice, it never really excited me enough to order any for Knitique. Every time I called Skacel to place an order for yarn or their fabulous Addi Lace needles, I'd ask when will the Addi Lace Clicks be available. They weren't sure but they put me on the list. They soon got tired of me asking and low and behold I got an email from Rob this morning letting me know that the Addi Clicks have been developed and they would be expecting an order in April.

So what's so awesome about the clicks:
The addi Lace Click system provides 8 different sizes of addi Lace tips (3.5mm, 3.75mm, 4.0mm, 4.5mm, 5.0mm, 5.5mm, 6.0mm, 8.0mm), five different lengths of our new, extremely pliable blue cord (16", 20", 24”, 32” and 40”), and one connector piece which helps to either store stitches or combine your cords. The Click tips require no tools to change; simply insert the cord deep into the tip, twist and release. The tips will remain secure until you change them, thanks to the Click’s revolutionary locking mechanism!

For those who use certain needles more than others, you can purchase extra cords and extra needle tips for the sizes you use most frequently. I know when I've been on a trip and I start swatching, it always seems like I don't have the size I need. In this case, I'd just have to trade out the needle tips and start another size.
Starting tomorrow we will be taking preorders for the Addi Lace Click System. A $90.00 deposit will hold your set with the remaining balance due when the sets come in. Due to the limited nature of this product we will not be giving any discounts on these Click Systems.

And if you are worried about what cute case you'll be storing these in. I've found a fabulous Interchangeable Needle Case from Della Q, one of my favorite people to do business with.

Here's a little information on her cases
: The case holds 15 tips to allow for the smaller interchangeable sets. Tip pockets are dual numbered! Includes six pockets for your cords and a zip pocket for connectors.

US 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 10.5, 10.75, 11, 13, 15, 17
Metric 2.75, 3.25, 3.5, 3.75, 4, 4.5, 5, 5.5, 6, 6.5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12
These wonderful cases come in Purple, Seafoam, Ocean, Pink, Green, Brown, Red and Mauve for only $36.00. Be sure to pre-order your case when you order your needles.

If you can't come in tomorrow, you can call us at 916.714.7719 to reserve your set today. They will be arriving they anticipate the middle of April, and I was told, I was one of the first shops to order, so we will definitely get them in the first batch.

Here's to clicking into the future!

For the Love of Knitting

I'm sure you'll notice the calendar is not available on the side bar. We had a computer hard drive crash on our shop's computer instigated by my beautifully talented six year old. We've had it fixed and upgraded but some of the programs we used to put the calendar on the site are still missing. I'm hoping on Tuesday to be able to fix the kinks and have it up here. In the meantime we've got lots of copies at the shop. And if I do say it again, we've outdone ourselves once again. You'll love what we've got planned this month. Fabulous, Fun Classes.

Beware of 6 year olds with an aptitude for pressing multiple buttons at once.

Back to our Regular Scheduled Program

We had an incredible day yesterday, with over a dozen people waiting in line for the doors to open. I know it sounds crazy to some of you, but the New Year's Day Sale is something we all look forward to. What better way to start your day then sitting in your pajamas, enjoying an incredible breakfast feast, and enjoying a Store-wide Sale. The perfect way to start the New Year.

As of today, we will be open our regular hours. Today will be the first day of our Finish your old projects. I've told several of you at the shop that my Knitting New Year's Resolutions is at the beginning of the month, I have to finish one old project then I can start a new one. I've got a perfect first project to finish, slippers for the little boy. I just have one cuff and a sole, maybe an hours worth of knitting, sew then, and felt them when he get back from his Auntie's.

It's a good thing too, because yesterday at the shop we found the perfect "FAST" pattern to knit up a jacket. I want to swatch and get started for the class we will be hosting on Friday nights. Nothing gets me motivated quicker than a super fast project that I can knit in a few days and wear it next week.

Free Holiday Classes

As promised we've got some great EASY projects that we will be teaching for FREE this next week. Bring a friend and spend some quality time knitting something just for you or for someone special. You can even get a head start on your Christmas or Birthday giving for next year.

One Night Stand

This beautiful scarf is made with a Chunky Alpaca. They call for only 1 skein of Chunky Alpaca, but being a girl with shall we say "Big Girls" I can't have a scarf end resting on my "Girls" so I'm calling this the Two Night Stand. You need 2 skeins of Baby Alpaca Chunky and a size 10 needle. This pattern is nice because they give you both the written directions for the lace work as well as a chart for those who love chart reading.

This Class will be offered on

Saturday: December 26th from 10-12 and 4-6pm
Tuesday: December 29th from 2-4pm

and Thursday: December 31st from 10-12pm

the second class we will be offering is a gorgeous Spiral Rib Hat

This hat is a nice spiral design which is easy to knit with the help of two markers. What I love about the pattern is it works with any yarn. They've done all the math and you just knit a swatch plug in the numbers and voila you've got a pattern. We are making this
out of a thick thin yarn which give both visual and textural interest.

We will be offering this class:

Saturday, December 26 1-3pm
Tuesday, December 29 4-6pm

and Thursday, December 31 1-3pm

Where's Waldo?

I hadn't realized it had been so long since I'd posted. In my head I've created lots of posts this past few weeks in my head.

It's been a crazy couple of weeks with sending my oldest son off to the Air Force Academy, and my husband having surgery all in the same day. I want to thank everyone for the emotional support, the phone calls, the cards and all the text messages. Without you all this would have been much more difficult.

So much new yarn has come in. Last Thursday we had 500 lbs of yarn from just Classic Elite. We've checked it all in, priced it all and it's in a lovely display sure to be wrecked as you fall in love with this falls newest offerings. Later this week I'll post what's new and some of the beautiful books we have fallen in love with.

See you all on Friday night where we will be hosting our famous monthly event Knit and Nosh.

Kick off your Fall Knitting with a day of inspiration.

Booksigning & Trunk Show

We are so excited to announce that we will be hosting a Book Signing and Trunk Show with nationally known designer, Faina Goberstein. You've all seen one of her pieces in the shop, Two-way Beanie. She's also had her work published in Interweave Knits, Ravelry, Knitting in the Sun and is a designer for such well-known companies as Cascade, and Claudia Handpainted. Even more exciting is she's co-authored the book Casual, Elegant Knits. We don't have all the details worked out, since she has an event Saturday night, but we are hoping to have her teach a class earlier in the day on Saturday, September 12th.

One of the benefits of attending the event is you get to see the patterns, touch & see the garments that were created from the pattern as well as try on any garments you choose. We will have a limited amount of space for the event so drop us a line to let us know you are interested in attending. We will be sending out more details later this week on all the details of what Faina and Knitique will be offering.

The Magzines are here, the magazines are here.

The fall magazines have arrived, and can I tell you they are incredible. Cables, Cables, everywhere and tweed. I have always loved tweed yarns. I'm so excited that my fall line up of yarns will blend nicely with the patterns that we are seeing in the current magazines.

We've already ordered the yarn that will work perfectly with the cabled jacket that's on the cover of Interweave Knits. We won't be using the yarn they used, but we've got an excellent substitution, that we think will be even better. We were looking for a yarn that had excellent colors, soft and machine washable. Trish has her color already picked and I'm sure she'll be the first to finish. She's a whiz at starting and finishing projects, and I am constantly amazed at the consistency in her knitting and the beauty of her finished projects.
Come on in today and set your sights on your first Fall 2009 project.
If you are going to the movies today, come to the washcloth class today at 3, or stop by the shop before 530. We will be eating dinner at Kintaro's and then will be going to the 7pm show.

Classes available

The class schedule is up and running.

Okay, you think it'd get easier each month, but it's not. When you only do something once a month, it's hard for it to stick in your brain. So for all your girls and guys out there who can't remember how to Kitchener, I promise I won't give you a bad time, when you need my cheat sheet.

Look to the right, click on the link, and see what an incredible class line up we have. We've got our incredibly successfull All Skills Classes, plenty of Origami Classes, and at the end of the month we are starting another round of Liesl classes. I'm currently making my second one out of the gorgeous Punta del Estes Merino Twist. I can't wait for the other lines to arrive. The owners of the company are so pleasant to deal with. You couldn't ask for more from a small independant company.

We've had so many finished projects coming in the doors. You wouldn't believe how gorgeous the Pleated Tee came out. We taught our first classes in June and they are gorgeous. Each of the original students have finished or are working on finishing their first one, and I have 3 students who have made 2 and are working on their 3rd. The fit, and look is really incredible. When I get a chance I'll upload them to the shop. Didn't get to catch the class the first and second go-round? Not to worry, you can take our All Skills classes and learn how to make this delicous and really flattering top.

Origami Deluxe

I think we have broken the record of wonderful talented knitters who will be making the Origami Sweater designed by Linda Daniels. I have to say NONE of the pictures that you see on Ravelry give justice to the pure genius design of this sweater. At the last count we have 42 knitters making this. It honestly doesn't get any easier. Two rectangles, simple stitch pattern, 4 seams, and voila you get the most cheeky design. Dolman sleeves, scooped back ... delicious. It's what I call Couture Knitting.
We are still placing orders for the kits, you'll have to come drop it, check out the samples cards, and order what works best for you. We've got a card full of beautiful Melange colors (what I would call heathered) and 3 tiers of beautiful solids. Probably about 80 colors to choose from in all. And NO, I'm not exaggerating.
If you'd like to join in on the newest knitting sensations, please stop by or give us a call. We'd love to have you join in for your next "Favorite" sweater.

Movie Night or should I say Movie Nights

It's a little late of a notice on the blog, but in my defense it's been on the schedule all this month. We've got movie night tonight. Meet us at the shop at 6pm. We are going out to Dos Coyotes for dinner and then off to United Artist on Centerpark Way and Bruceville to see the romantic comedy, "The Ugly Truth."

Can't make tonight, no worries, there are so many fabulous movies out this month that we will be having another movie night, next Saturday, August 8th. We are going to see Julie & Julia. Again, come meet us at the shop for dinner and movies. Depending on which movie theatre it's playing at we will go to dinner either before or after the movies.

Thanks to everyone who came to the washcloth class. We filled the house once again. I brought a delicious Lemon Cake from home, and Cora brought delicious cupcakes from Baby Cakes. Our next washcloth class will be on Saturday, August 22nd at 3-6 pm.

Also, thanks to Beth, she's agreed to help me teach the Fun Furlough Friday, next Friday, August 7th from 3-6pm. We originally had filled the class, yep girls that fast, but because of Beth's generous offer, we will be able to add another 8 to the class. I'll be at the shop tomorrow from 12-4 so come on in, or give me a call to reserve your spot.
